How does the band work?
A band with a balloon inside (filled with a saline solution) is attached around the top portion of your stomach, forming a smaller “gastric pouch”. Because the pouch holds less food than the whole stomach, you are inclined to eat less. The restriction provided by the band also slows the trickle of food down into the rest of the stomach – this makes you feel full longer.
An access port is attached to the band by a tube, and placed just under your skin. Using the port, doctors can adjust the amount of saline solution in the balloon, tightening it or loosening it according to your weight loss needs.
The whole procedure takes about forty minutes, and after a few hours in a recovery room, the patient is free to head home and start living their new life as a Bandster. The band, along with our patient care program, retrains Bandsters to eat properly, by choosing nutritious foods and eating in small portions. Because of the enhanced feeling of satiety, you will be inclined to eat less. Combined with TLBC’s extensive post-op support, you’ll be able to lose weight and keep it off.
